Graduate Programme

Our 12 month graduate programme is part of xDesign Campus, giving people the opportunity to gain meaningful experience, grow their skills and accelerate their career path. As an integral part of the xDesign team from day one, our graduates will learn the ins and outs of digital practices, giving them everything they need to kick start their careers in tech.

Applications for September 2022 are now closed

Development, Accelerated

Learning doesn’t stop when you leave the classroom. So much like the rest of the xDesign team, our graduate programme is centred around learning and development.

Our combination of practical experience, internal mentoring, dedicated development days and access to our technical skills learning platform, O’Reilly, allows our graduates to learn, grow and be the best they can be.

Everything you need to succeed

What you can expect

A clear pathway

From the outset, we’ll work with you to set relevant and practical goals and outline the best way to get there. Alongside your on-the-job learning, this 12-month pathway will consistently help you build technical and interpersonal skills, and equip you with the confidence to move forward in your career.

Rotational experience

xDesign graduates will spend time with a variety of different departments, such as our frontend, backend, mobile and QA teams. You will get the chance to work on a variety of real-life internal and external projects to grow your confidence in a wide range of practical, relevant skills, whilst also discovering where your interests are.

Dedicated learning days

To get the most out of your development pathway, you will take part in quarterly development days after each rotation. These will focus on different technical and non-technical practices to help you succeed throughout your career.

On-hand mentoring

Each graduate will be assigned a mentor who, alongside the wider team, will be on hand to answer any questions and make sure you have everything you need to succeed.

Future success

Once the programme is finished, you’ll be placed within one of our engineering teams based on your skills and interests. We work with our graduates individually to shape a career pathway prior to the programme finishing to ensure your journey with us continues to go from strength to strength.

As well as a competitive salary, you can expect full access to the range of benefits that all xDesign employees have, including private medical insurance, development days, unlimited 1:1 financial coaching through Bippit and access to our learning platform O’Reilly.

What we’re looking for

Seeking potential

You don’t need a specific type of degree to apply for the programme, we welcome university, college and bootcamp graduates, as well as those retraining for a new career.

We’re focused on people with basic coding knowledge, a good attitude, and a passion for digital products.

Work from anywhere

We welcome applications from all locations throughout the UK, so long as you have the right to work in the UK. We already support fully remote employees across the country, and you will be given all the equipment you need to do your job well.

You can also be based in one of our offices in central Edinburgh or Leeds. We know that everyone thrives in different environments, so the choice is yours.

The recruitment process

Automated coding test

Once you’ve submitted your application for the programme, you’ll undertake a one-hour online coding challenge through Qualified, focused on the languages and frameworks used by our team every day.

Initial interview

Next, you’ll have an initial first-stage interview with the emerging talent team to discuss your skills, experience and interests. This is also an opportunity to ask any questions you have about the programme.

Discovery day

Finally, you’ll be invited to our Discovery Day, where you’ll take part in a practical group exercise, a technical-focused interview, and a culture-focused interview. Hosted at our Edinburgh office, this will be your opportunity to experience the xDesign way of life and understand if the role, and environment, would be a good fit for you.
