This 12-month rotational experience gives you insight into each of our engineering capabilities, including frontend, backend and mobile. You’ll dive into the frameworks and languages we use, work within cross-functional teams, and find out where your engineering interests lie.
From the outset, we’ll work with you to set relevant and practical goals and outline the best way to get there. Alongside your on-the-job learning, this 12-month pathway will consistently help you build technical and interpersonal skills, and equip you with the confidence to move forward in your career.
Our graduates will spend time with a variety of different engineering departments, such as our frontend, backend, and mobile teams. You will get the chance to work on a variety of real-life internal and external projects to grow your confidence in a wide range of practical, relevant skills, whilst also discovering where your interests are.
To get the most out of your development pathway, you will take part in quarterly development days after each rotation. These will encompass all of our engineering specialties and focus on different technical and non-technical practices to help you succeed throughout your career.
Each graduate will be assigned a mentor who, alongside the wider team, will be on hand to answer any questions and make sure you have everything you need to succeed.
Once the programme is finished, you’ll be placed within one of our engineering teams based on your skills and interests. We work with our graduates individually to shape a career pathway prior to the programme finishing to ensure your journey with us continues to go from strength to strength.
As well as a competitive salary, you can expect full access to the range of benefits that all xDesign employees have, including private medical insurance, development days, unlimited 1:1 financial coaching through Bippit and access to our learning platform O’Reilly.
You don’t need a specific type of degree to apply for the programme, we welcome university, college and bootcamp graduates, as well as those retraining for a new career.
We’re focused on people with basic coding knowledge, a good attitude, and a passion for digital products.
We welcome applications from people throughout the UK, so long as you have the right to work in the UK.
We support fully remote and hybrid working if you are based near our Edinburgh or Leeds offices. The choice is yours.
With every application process, we look for people who embrace our values: we challenge, we care, we collaborate. Our people act with integrity, and challenge our clients, and each other, in pursuit of better solutions.
We care about our craft, colleagues, clients and their customers. And we are all equal. Individually we are brilliant, together we are unstoppable.
1.
Automated coding test
Once you’ve submitted your application for the programme, you’ll undertake a one-hour online coding challenge through Qualified, focused on the languages and frameworks used by our team every day.
2.
Initial interview
Next, you’ll have an initial first-stage interview with the emerging talent team to discuss your skills, experience and interests. This is also an opportunity to ask any questions you have about the programme.
3.
Discovery day
Finally, you’ll be invited to our Discovery Day, where you’ll take part in a practical group exercise, a technical-focused interview, and a culture-focused interview. Hosted at our Edinburgh or Leeds office, this will be your opportunity to experience the xDesign way of life and understand if the role, and environment, would be a good fit for you.
Myths around careers in web development are commonly found, and often counterproductive: they can hold you back from entering the field or give you unrealistic expectations that set you up for disappointment. We look at the misconceptions we sometimes hear whirling around the tech ecosystem, and distinguishing fact from fiction.
